BSc Economics and Management
About this course
Economics and management together develop two complementary analytical frameworks for understanding how organisations and markets work. Economics provides the theoretical and quantitative tools to analyse how resources are allocated, how markets function, and how policy can improve outcomes for society. Management extends those insights into the practical challenge of leading and coordinating organisations, examining strategy, human behaviour, operations, and commercial decision-making. Combining the two produces graduates who can analyse economic environments rigorously and act within them effectively. Royal Holloway and Bedford New College's three-year full-time Economics and Management degree is provided jointly by one of the UK's top ten teaching and research centres for economics and the university's business school, as the course itself notes. The programme has a typical entry tariff of 120 points and includes a sandwich year, a year abroad option, and work placement opportunities. You will cover the core content of both the economics and management degrees, learning from internationally renowned experts who bring current research and experience to their teaching. The combination is described as intellectually stimulating and covering two highly complementary subjects, and the breadth of both programmes gives you a versatile and analytically strong preparation for a wide range of careers. Graduates work in business and management, economic consultancy, banking and financial services, the civil service, policy analysis, management consulting, and corporate strategy. The quantitative and analytical skills from economics combined with the organisational and leadership thinking from management are valued across a very wide range of employers. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study in economics, management, finance, or policy, and some continue to professional qualifications in accountancy or finance.
