BSc Economics with Study Abroad in a Modern Language
About this course
Economics with a study abroad year in a modern language is a degree that develops analytical and quantitative rigour alongside the linguistic and cultural competence to apply that rigour internationally. At the University of Bristol, this four-year full-time programme includes a foundation year and a year spent studying abroad in the language of your host country, combining the intellectual demands of economics with immersive exposure to a different academic culture and a different economy. The combination develops graduates who can analyse economic phenomena with precision and engage with international environments with genuine cultural and linguistic effectiveness. You will study microeconomic and macroeconomic theory, mathematics for economics, econometrics and a range of applied fields including labour economics, development economics, public finance, monetary economics and international trade. The quantitative core of the programme develops skills in formal modelling and statistical analysis that are valued across many professions. The year abroad, conducted in the language of your chosen partner institution, deepens both your language skills and your understanding of another country's economic policy, institutions and conditions. A foundation year is available for those who need to build their mathematical or analytical grounding before beginning the main degree. A typical tariff of around 200 points is expected for this programme. Bristol economics graduates are sought after across finance, banking, government, consulting, international organisations and the public sector. The additional language dimension significantly strengthens employability in any role with an international dimension, from financial services firms with European operations to development organisations and diplomatic services. Many graduates proceed to postgraduate study in economics, finance, public policy or international relations.
