Event management is the discipline of planning, coordinating, and delivering events that serve social, cultural, commercial, and civic purposes. The global events industry encompasses everything from major sporting competitions and international conferences to local community festivals and corporate product launches, and it requires practitioners who combine creative vision with logistical precision, financial control, and the ability to manage teams and stakeholders under pressure. At Southampton Solent University, this three-year full-time programme develops the practical and conceptual skills needed to work across the events industry. You will study event concept development, project management, logistics and operations, budgeting and financial management, marketing and communications for events, and the health and safety and legal frameworks that govern the sector. The programme situates event management within broader debates about the social, cultural, and environmental impact of events, developing your ability to deliver experiences that are both successful commercially and responsible in their effects. A foundation year is available for students who need additional preparation, a sandwich year places you in a professional setting for an extended period, and work placement experience is integrated throughout. Graduates from event management programmes go on to roles as event coordinators, project managers, venue managers, festival and conference producers, sports event administrators, and marketing executives in event-driven organisations.
