BA Fashion Jewellery
About this course
Fashion jewellery is the design and making of jewellery that engages with the contemporary fashion landscape, working with materials and processes that range from precious metals and stones to unexpected industrial or found materials, and situating the design of jewellery within the aesthetic, commercial, and cultural contexts of the fashion industry. Where fine jewellery is often defined by the preciousness of its materials, fashion jewellery is defined by its relationship to trends, identity, and the body as a site of adornment and self-expression. It is a discipline that demands both sophisticated craft skill and a developed design sensibility. At the London College of Fashion, part of the University of the Arts London, you will study fashion jewellery over three years full-time in one of the world's leading fashion institutions. The programme develops your technical skills in metalwork, construction, and production alongside your design intelligence and understanding of the contexts in which fashion jewellery is made and sold. The sandwich year and work placement provision give you the opportunity to gain substantial professional experience in the jewellery or wider fashion and accessories industry before you graduate. The typical entry tariff is 136 UCAS points. Graduates work as fashion jewellery designers in fashion brands, accessories companies, and independent practice, as well as in product development, buying, and visual merchandising roles within the fashion and luxury sectors. Many graduates develop careers that combine independent design practice with commercial work for brands or retailers. Teaching, museum collection roles, and jewellery education are also destinations. Many graduates also continue to postgraduate study in jewellery, accessories design, or related disciplines.
