BA Fashion Photography
About this course
Fashion photography occupies a distinctive space where visual art, commercial culture, and storytelling converge. It is a discipline that goes well beyond technical camera skills, requiring a sophisticated understanding of light, composition, narrative, styling, and the way images communicate ideas about identity, beauty, and society. At its best, fashion photography is a serious creative practice that shapes how we see clothing, bodies, and the cultural moment. This three-year, full-time programme at one of the world's leading arts universities gives you access to exceptional facilities, industry connections, and a community of creative practitioners across fashion and the wider arts. You will develop technical mastery of photographic processes, both digital and analogue, and build a deep visual literacy through the study of photographic history and theory. Studio work, location shoots, and collaborative projects will sharpen your ability to direct talent, manage creative teams, and develop a personal artistic voice. The course includes a placement year, which gives you sustained exposure to professional practice and allows you to build your network within the industry before you graduate. The skills and portfolio you develop prepare you for work as a fashion photographer across editorial, advertising, e-commerce, and social media contexts. Many graduates also move into related areas such as art direction, photo editing, creative production, and visual content strategy. The rigour of the course, combined with the practical experience gained during your placement year, means you leave with both creative confidence and an understanding of the professional environments in which fashion images are made and circulated. Further study in photography, visual communication, or curatorial practice is also a natural progression for those drawn to the academic or institutional side of the field.
