MArts History with Innovation
About this course
History with innovation is a degree designed for students who want to develop the depth of historical understanding that a serious history education provides alongside the interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial thinking that contemporary innovation demands. History at degree level develops the ability to engage critically with evidence, construct persuasive arguments across complex material, and understand how the forces shaping the present have their roots in the past. The innovation strand broadens that formation by drawing on insights from science, engineering, design and enterprise, developing the kind of thinking that works across specialisms and cultures. At the University of Bristol you will study history with innovation over four years of full-time study, with a foundation year available as an entry route that builds academic foundations before the main degree content begins. The programme reflects Bristol's commitment to producing graduates who think across disciplines and who bring both humanistic depth and creative ambition to the challenges they encounter in their careers. You will develop strong skills in historical research, analysis and writing alongside the collaborative, systems-level thinking that the innovation strand introduces. The typical tariff of 152 reflects the intellectual expectations of a programme at a research-intensive university. Graduates are well placed for careers that value both analytical depth and creative breadth, including roles in consultancy, strategy, policy, the creative industries, technology companies, social enterprise, journalism, education and public service. The history foundation provides strong research and communication skills that are valued across virtually every sector, while the innovation strand opens doors in organisations looking for graduates who can think across boundaries and contribute to change. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in history, innovation management, social entrepreneurship or professional programmes in law, management or education.
