BA Human Resource Management and Business
About this course
Human resource management is the discipline of managing people within organisations: attracting, selecting, and retaining talent; developing employees through training and career support; managing performance, reward, and employee relations; and ensuring that organisations operate fairly, legally, and in ways that support both individual and collective wellbeing. As automation and artificial intelligence change what jobs require, HR has moved from an administrative function to a strategic one, with people analytics, talent strategy, and organisational design becoming central to how competitive organisations operate. At Manchester Metropolitan University, this three-year full-time programme prepares you for a wide range of career opportunities, whether you choose to specialise in areas like people analytics, talent management, or learning and development, or take on a broader generalist HR role. The degree develops you as an effective people manager who is digitally literate, connected, confident, and ready to lead with purpose in a changing world. The programme includes a sandwich year placement and integrated work placement activity, giving you substantial professional experience in an HR or business context that employers value highly. A typical entry tariff of 120 points applies. You will study organisational behaviour, employment law, resourcing and talent management, learning and development, reward management, employee relations, and the people analytics that are reshaping how HR decisions are made. The placement gives you direct experience of managing real people challenges before you graduate. Graduates go on to careers as HR managers and business partners, talent managers, learning and development specialists, people analytics professionals, and in related management roles. Many pursue Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development qualifications alongside or following the degree, and the management grounding also opens broader business careers in consultancy, operations, and general management.
