BA Human Resource Management and Spanish
About this course
Human resource management and Spanish is a combination that reflects the international dimensions of both modern business and language study. HRM as a discipline is concerned with how organisations recruit, develop, motivate and retain their people, and with the legal, ethical and strategic frameworks that shape those practices. Spanish is the second most widely spoken native language in the world, and the economies of Spain and Latin America represent a vast professional context in which Spanish-language skills alongside business expertise create distinctive opportunities. At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time degree develops genuine competence in both HRM and Spanish alongside each other. In HRM you will study employment relations, recruitment and selection, learning and development, reward management, equality and diversity, and the organisational psychology that underpins effective people management. In Spanish you will build your language skills toward an advanced level, engaging with literature, culture and the contemporary Spanish-speaking world. A year abroad is built into the degree, giving you the chance to study at a partner institution in a Spanish-speaking country or region and to develop your language fluency in a real environment while gaining an international perspective on business and management. Typical entry is around 152 UCAS tariff points. Graduates from this combination are well placed for careers in international HR, people management roles in organisations with Spanish-speaking markets, recruitment, employee relations, talent development, business consulting and corporate affairs. The language capability is particularly valued by multinationals with operations across Spain or Latin America, and by organisations in sectors including tourism, trade, financial services and professional services. Professional qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development are a common next step for those pursuing an HR career. Further study in international HRM, business management or Spanish studies is also available.
