LLB Law Accelerated
About this course
Law is one of the most demanding and rewarding academic disciplines, examining the rules, principles and institutions that govern how societies resolve disputes, protect rights and organise collective life. For graduates in other subjects who decide they want to pursue a legal career, the accelerated law degree provides a compressed and intensive route into the profession, covering the same essential ground as a standard three-year programme but in two years. It requires serious commitment and intellectual adaptability, but for motivated graduates it offers an efficient pathway to legal qualification. At the University of Aberdeen this two-year, full-time accelerated LLB is available to graduates with a good honours degree in any other subject, providing access to Aberdeen Law School's highly regarded legal education for those who bring prior academic training and maturity to their studies. You will cover the foundations of Scots and UK law, including contract, property, delict, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, and evidence, developing the legal reasoning, statutory interpretation and case analysis skills that are essential for legal practice. Aberdeen Law School's characteristic breadth and depth of provision means you benefit from a wide range of specialist expertise and a strong commitment to the quality of your academic and professional formation. Graduates of the accelerated LLB pursue careers in solicitor and advocate training in Scotland and beyond, and many go on to complete the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice before entering the profession. The degree also opens routes into roles in corporate legal departments, public sector legal work, the judiciary, academia, the civil service, policy and the growing range of roles in compliance, regulation, technology law and international legal practice. A prior degree in another field can be a distinctive advantage in many legal settings, bringing perspective and expertise that a pure law graduate may not have.
