LLB Law with Modern Languages (Spanish)
About this course
Law with modern languages is a degree built on a recognition that legal practice is increasingly international and that the best lawyers often need both legal knowledge and the ability to operate across linguistic and cultural boundaries. Spanish is one of the world's most widely spoken languages and the official language of more than twenty countries, making it particularly valuable for lawyers working in international commercial law, human rights, or cross-border disputes involving Latin America, Spain, or the wider Spanish-speaking world. At Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, this three-year full-time degree is aimed at students who wish to study the discipline of law combined with Spanish, developing a critical awareness of the law while acquiring advanced linguistic proficiency in both written and oral Spanish. You will study core legal subjects including contract, tort, criminal law, equity, constitutional law, and European law, developing the analytical reasoning and case law knowledge that legal study demands. Spanish study progresses your language skills across all four areas while also engaging with Spanish and Latin American literature and culture. The programme includes a sandwich year with a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you direct experience of the Spanish-speaking world and of legal professional environments. Entry typically requires around 120 UCAS tariff points. Graduates go on to qualify as solicitors or barristers, work in international law firms, pursue careers in the diplomatic service, international organisations, legal translation, or cross-border business. The combination of legal training with advanced Spanish is distinctive and opens doors in jurisdictions and sectors where this dual expertise is rare and valued.
