BA Marketing and Management
About this course
Marketing and management is a pairing that makes immediate commercial sense. Marketing provides the understanding of customer needs, brand communication, and market dynamics that organisations depend on to grow. Management provides the operational, financial, and strategic framework within which marketing activity is planned and resourced. Studying both together means you graduate with a rounded commercial education that prepares you for strategic roles as well as specialist marketing functions. This three-year full-time degree at the University of Derby develops your specialist marketing knowledge while also covering management subjects including purchasing, managing international supply chains, lean systems, cost reduction, and people management. This breadth is intentional: the programme is designed to produce graduates who understand the commercial context of marketing decisions and who can work effectively across organisational boundaries. The degree includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement activity, giving you a rich combination of academic preparation and professional experience in different settings. The year abroad adds an international dimension that is increasingly valuable in marketing and management roles in global organisations. Graduates from this programme are well placed for a wide range of strategic and commercial roles. Marketing management, brand management, product management, digital marketing, account management, and business development are all natural destinations. The management component opens additional opportunities in operations, supply chain, and general management. Some graduates enter the events, retail, or consultancy sectors, where the combination of marketing knowledge and operational management skills is particularly valued. Others go on to postgraduate study in marketing, business administration, or international management, further developing their expertise.
