BSc Marketing (Year in Business)
About this course
Marketing has become one of the most analytically demanding and creatively stimulating functions in modern organisations. Understanding why people buy what they buy, how brands build trust and loyalty, how digital platforms change the relationship between organisations and their audiences, and how marketing campaigns are designed, executed and evaluated requires a combination of quantitative rigour, psychological insight and creative judgment. A well-designed marketing degree develops all of these capacities. At Royal Holloway and Bedford New College this programme is offered in a four-year version that includes a Year in Business placement between the second and third years. This placement year is a significant feature of the degree, giving you direct professional marketing experience in an organisation before you complete your final year of academic study. The placement is properly integrated into the programme rather than simply appended to it, and it gives you the chance to test your developing skills, build professional networks and reflect on your career direction before you graduate. Royal Holloway is part of the University of London and is located in Egham, Surrey, close to London and its rich range of business and creative industry employers. You will study consumer behaviour, market research, brand management, digital marketing, communications strategy, marketing analytics and the international dimensions of marketing practice. The programme also covers the ethical dimensions of marketing and its social responsibilities, reflecting an increasingly important dimension of contemporary practice. Graduates move into marketing, brand management, digital marketing, public relations, advertising, market research and product management roles across every sector. The Year in Business placement gives Royal Holloway graduates a practical advantage in the graduate market. Many pursue professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Marketing or go on to postgraduate study in marketing, communications or business.
