BN MNurs Adult and Children's
About this course
Nursing requires a combination of scientific knowledge, clinical skill, and genuine commitment to the wellbeing of patients across all stages of life and health. The MNurs in Adult and Children's Nursing at the University of Chester is a dual field programme, meaning that you will qualify in both adult nursing and children's nursing within a single four-year degree. Dual field qualification is relatively rare and significantly extends the professional options available to you upon graduation, since you will be registered and competent to care for patients across a much wider age range than single field nurses. Over four years you will develop the knowledge, clinical reasoning, and practical skills required in both fields. Adult nursing encompasses the care of patients from young adulthood through to old age, across medical, surgical, critical care, and community settings. Children's nursing addresses the distinct physiological, psychological, and developmental needs of infants, children, and young people, and the particular responsibilities that come with working with patients who may not be able to advocate for themselves. You will build competence in assessment, care planning, medicines management, and the communication and ethical dimensions of nursing practice that are central to both fields. The programme is structured to allow genuine depth in each specialism rather than a superficial dual qualification. Graduation leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in both adult and children's nursing, which is a significant professional distinction. Career destinations span NHS hospitals, community nursing, paediatric settings, GP practices, specialist children's services, and independent healthcare providers. The dual registration gives you flexibility to move between fields as your career develops, and to take on roles in services that care for mixed populations. Further study leading to specialist practitioner or advanced nurse practitioner qualifications is available for those who wish to develop clinical leadership or specialist practice roles.
