BSc Physical Education and Sport
About this course
Physical education and sport is a degree for those who want to understand sport and physical activity scientifically, develop expertise in teaching and coaching, and use that knowledge in education or the youth sport sector. Physical education in schools shapes not just fitness levels but lifelong attitudes towards physical activity, sport, and the body, and good PE teachers and coaches are genuine agents of positive development in young people's lives. A degree that combines academic study of sport science with practical teaching and coaching skills is the natural preparation for careers in this space. At the University of Lincoln, this three-year full-time programme is designed for those with an interest in pursuing a career within the education or youth sport sector. It is deliberately versatile: while many graduates continue into initial teacher training in primary and secondary schools, others go into coaching, sport science, the uniformed forces, physiotherapy, and other fields. The programme includes a sandwich year placement and a year abroad, as well as integrated work placement activity, giving you substantial professional experience and an international perspective that set you apart from graduates of more conventional degrees. A typical entry tariff of 120 points applies. You will study sport science, child and adolescent development, coaching theory and practice, physical education pedagogy, exercise physiology, and the research methods that underpin evidence-based practice in sport and education. The placement elements ensure you develop practical teaching and coaching experience alongside your academic knowledge, which is essential for roles working with young people. Graduates go on to initial teacher training, coaching roles across community sport, academies and elite sport environments, sport development, physiotherapy with further qualifications, and careers in the uniformed services and the public health sector. The range of practical experiences built into the programme supports a wide variety of post-graduation destinations.
