BSc Psychology with Neuroscience
About this course
Psychology with Neuroscience is a degree that examines the human mind from two complementary directions. Psychology uses behavioural and social science methods to study thought, emotion, motivation, social interaction and individual differences, building theories about how and why people act as they do. Neuroscience brings biological depth to those questions, using tools such as neuroimaging to observe the neural correlates of cognitive processes and behaviours in real time, revealing how the brain underpins mental life. Together they produce a more comprehensive understanding of human behaviour than either discipline could achieve alone. At Manchester Metropolitan University this three-year full-time degree engages with the rapid development of the combined field, covering both the empirical foundations of psychological science and the neuroscientific knowledge needed to understand the brain systems that support cognition, emotion and behaviour. You will learn how research in neuroscience has advanced understanding of psychiatric conditions including depression, anxiety and schizophrenia, identifying the neural underpinnings of these conditions and informing more effective treatments. The programme develops your skills in empirical research alongside your theoretical knowledge, preparing you for a range of professional and academic pathways. Graduates from Psychology with Neuroscience degrees are well positioned for careers in healthcare, research, clinical settings and technology. Many go on to postgraduate study in clinical, health or educational psychology, or in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging research. Others find roles in healthcare management, pharmaceutical research, mental health services, educational support, human factors design and user experience research. The scientific skills and knowledge of brain and behaviour the degree develops are valued across a growing range of sectors as neuroscience continues to shape medicine, technology and our understanding of human potential.
