BSc Sport Rehabilitation
About this course
Sport rehabilitation is a clinical profession focused on the prevention, assessment, and management of musculoskeletal injuries in sport and active populations. Sport rehabilitators work alongside physiotherapists, sports medicine doctors, and strength and conditioning coaches to help injured athletes return to full function, manage pain, and build resilience against reinjury. The role requires both scientific knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and injury mechanisms, and the practical clinical skills to apply that knowledge in demanding performance environments. At the University of Cumbria, this three-year programme is designed to give you the industry knowledge, skills, and employment prospects to begin a career in sport rehabilitation. You will learn to prevent, examine, and treat sports-related injuries, practising in dedicated facilities including a rehabilitation clinic, strength and conditioning room, and biomechanics and physiology laboratories. Your tutors are industry professionals who will support your development and help you pursue your own areas of interest within the field. Beyond the university setting, you will complete at least 400 hours of work experience across different sporting and clinical environments, which is a substantial and distinctive feature of the programme that gives you the professional exposure and practical competence that employers in the sector value. Graduates are qualified to work in sport rehabilitation roles within professional sports clubs, elite performance programmes, sport science support teams, clinical sport medicine practices, and fitness and wellness settings. The BASRaT-accredited qualification the degree provides is the standard professional recognition in the field. Many graduates also pursue further study in physiotherapy, sports medicine, or strength and conditioning, and the practical foundations the degree provides are well suited to those pathways.
