BSc Sports Business Management
About this course
Sports business management combines the excitement and cultural significance of sport with the rigorous commercial and organisational knowledge needed to manage sporting organisations effectively. The sports industry spans professional clubs and leagues, governing bodies, community sport, events and facilities, sponsorship and media rights, and it requires managers who understand both the particular dynamics of sport as a cultural phenomenon and the business principles of strategy, finance, marketing and operations. At Edge Hill University you will study this three-year full-time programme, which includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and embedded work placement opportunities. The placement year allows you to apply your learning in a real sports organisation, whether a professional club, a national governing body, a sports event or a community sport provider, while the year abroad broadens your understanding of how sport is organised and managed in other countries. You will study sports marketing, event management, sports finance, facility management, the legal and commercial frameworks of professional sport, and the role of sport in community and public health, alongside the broader business content that underpins effective management. The typical entry tariff for this programme is around 120 UCAS points. Edge Hill's location in Lancashire provides access to a range of professional sporting environments, and the university has developed strong links with clubs, governing bodies and sporting organisations across the North West. Graduates of sports business management programmes work across the full range of sporting organisations. Club management, event coordination, sports marketing, sponsorship, community sport development, facility management and sports administration are all well-established career paths. Roles in media rights, sports data analysis and sports consultancy are growing areas. Many graduates begin in coordinator or executive roles before progressing to management positions. Postgraduate study in sports management, sports business or event management is a further option for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.
