BA International Hotel Management
About this course
International hotel management addresses one of the world's most geographically distributed and culturally rich industries, training you to lead in the global hospitality sector with the commercial acumen, operational knowledge and cultural intelligence that senior hotel management requires. Effective hotel management combines financial discipline with the art of creating exceptional guest experiences, requiring managers who can simultaneously oversee food and beverage operations, rooms management, human resources, marketing, revenue management and the seamless coordination that makes a hotel work. The University of Westminster's programme equips you with the skills, knowledge and values needed to become an effective leader in international hospitality, drawing on London's position as one of the world's leading hospitality hubs and using the city itself as a learning environment. The programme runs over three years full time, including a sandwich year with embedded work placement opportunities and a year abroad. This combination of London study, work placement and international academic experience makes it one of the more broadly based hospitality management degrees available. No typical tariff is published for this programme. You will study hospitality operations management, revenue management and pricing, food and beverage management, luxury brand strategy, human resource management in hospitality, financial management and the legal and regulatory environment of the international hotel industry. The placement year gives you direct industry experience in a hotel context, consolidating and extending your operational and managerial learning, while the year abroad extends your international perspective. Graduates of international hotel management programmes work across the full range of hospitality contexts, including luxury and boutique hotels, international hotel chains, resort properties, serviced apartments, and hotel owning and investment companies. Management development programmes with major groups are a common graduate destination, as are operational management roles in rooms, food and beverage, and events. Many graduates also move into revenue management, hotel consulting, hospitality technology and real estate investment in the hotel sector. Postgraduate study in hospitality management, business administration or event management is available for those who wish to develop further.
