BSc Management with Year in Industry
About this course
Management as an academic discipline examines how organisations are planned, led and made to function effectively in complex and changing environments. It draws on economics, psychology, sociology and data analysis to help you understand decision-making, resource allocation, people and culture, risk and the strategic choices that determine whether organisations succeed or fail. Studying management with a dedicated year in industry means that the theoretical frameworks you build in the classroom are tested and enriched by real professional experience before you graduate. At SOAS University of London, the distinctive global and cross-cultural perspective that characterises the institution runs through this four-year full-time programme. SOAS's focus on Africa, Asia and the Middle East means you engage with business and management questions that go beyond the North Atlantic frameworks that dominate many conventional programmes, building an understanding of how organisations operate and how markets function across a wider range of contexts. You will develop skills in data analysis, evaluation and critical thinking alongside the substantive knowledge of business functions. The programme includes a foundation year, giving you a supported transition into degree-level study. Typical entry is around 120 UCAS tariff points. The year in industry is a defining feature of this degree, giving you extended immersion in a professional environment that develops your practical skills, professional network and readiness for a graduate career well in advance of completing your studies. Management graduates from SOAS go on to careers in business, international organisations, development agencies, NGOs, the civil service, finance, consultancy and entrepreneurship. The combination of management skills and SOAS's cross-cultural and global focus is particularly valued by organisations working across international boundaries. Postgraduate study in management, international business, development or finance is a common next step.
