BA Marketing
About this course
Marketing is the discipline of understanding what people want and communicating how a product or service meets that need. It sits at the boundary of psychology, economics, creativity and strategy, and it encompasses everything from market research and brand management to digital campaigns, pricing decisions and product development. In a world where organisations of all kinds compete intensely for attention and loyalty, effective marketing is not a luxury but a necessity, and professionals who can do it well are in consistent demand. At the University of Huddersfield, this three-year full-time programme includes a sandwich placement year and a work placement, giving you direct professional experience within a marketing organisation alongside your academic study. You will study consumer behaviour, marketing strategy, digital marketing, brand management, market research, communications planning, advertising, social media and the analytics that drive modern marketing decisions. The programme develops both your creative instincts and your analytical capabilities, preparing you for a profession that requires you to be simultaneously imaginative and evidence-based. The placement year gives you the professional exposure and network that are often decisive in securing employment after graduation. Graduates move into a wide range of marketing roles, including brand management, digital marketing, market research, content creation, public relations, social media management, advertising and marketing analytics. The broad scope of the profession means that your career can take many directions depending on where your strengths and interests lie. Agencies, consumer goods companies, technology businesses, retailers, financial services, the public sector and charities all employ marketing professionals. Many graduates also use the degree as a foundation for postgraduate study in marketing, business or digital communications, or for professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
