BA/BSc Marketing
About this course
Marketing is the discipline that connects organisations to the people they want to reach. It encompasses the understanding of consumer behaviour, the development of products and services that meet genuine needs, the communication of value through advertising, content, and brand, and the measurement and optimisation of all of these activities over time. In a world where digital channels have transformed how businesses and consumers interact, marketing skills are in demand across every sector, from the largest multinationals to small charities and social enterprises. At the University of Derby, this three-year full-time degree includes a foundation year, providing an accessible entry route for students who want to build their academic foundations before progressing into the main degree programme. You will develop a comprehensive understanding of how marketing works across the private, public, and third sectors, exploring how organisations plan and implement marketing strategies, how campaigns are created and executed, and how the effectiveness of marketing activity is monitored and evaluated. The programme reflects the reality that every organisation, regardless of its size or purpose, needs to market its goods and services effectively if it is to succeed. The sandwich placement year is a central feature of the degree, giving you extended professional experience in a real marketing environment, and work placement is integrated throughout, developing the practical skills and professional confidence that employers look for. You will also develop your understanding of digital marketing, data analytics, brand management, and consumer insight, equipping you for a field that continues to evolve rapidly. Graduates go on to careers as marketing executives, brand managers, digital marketers, content strategists, social media managers, market researchers, and communications specialists across virtually every industry. Many pursue professional qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Marketing, and some continue to postgraduate study in marketing, brand management, or business.
