BSc Psychology
About this course
Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, investigating how people think, feel, perceive, develop, relate to others, and act across the full range of human experience. It is a discipline that combines rigorous experimental methods with interpretive and clinical approaches, and its findings have direct relevance to healthcare, education, business, law, and public policy. Studying psychology at degree level develops both your scientific literacy and your understanding of human experience in all its complexity. At the University of Derby, this part-time programme has been designed to mould the next generation of psychologists and encourage graduates to make positive impacts on individuals' lives, businesses, and society. You will gain a broad and detailed knowledge of psychological theory and its application within contemporary psychology, covering the core areas required for British Psychological Society accreditation: cognitive and biological psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, and research methods. The programme includes a foundation year that builds your academic skills and psychological knowledge before you enter the main degree, and a sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement that give you extensive professional and international experience across the programme as a whole. BPS accreditation means that the programme confers Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, the prerequisite for postgraduate training in professional psychology. The typical entry tariff is 136 UCAS points. Graduates go on to careers in mental health, education, human resources, market research, social care, and other fields, as well as to postgraduate training in clinical, counselling, forensic, educational, and occupational psychology.
