BA Digital Marketing and Religion Theology & Spirituality
About this course
Digital marketing and religion, theology and spirituality is an unusual but genuinely interesting combination, reflecting the fact that digital communication has transformed how religious communities, faith organisations and spiritual movements engage with the world, and how they are represented in media and public discourse. Digital marketing provides the practical and strategic skills to understand and work within the digital economy, while religion, theology and spirituality brings intellectual depth to questions about identity, community, belief and values that are as pressing in digital culture as they are in any other context. At Liverpool Hope University, this three-year full-time programme develops your skills in digital marketing, covering strategy, content creation, social media, data analytics and the tools that underpin professional digital communication, alongside an academic engagement with major world religious traditions. The religion, theology and spirituality component explores Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism as well as contemporary spiritual identities that extend beyond traditional faiths, set in the richly diverse religious context that Liverpool provides. A placement year and a year abroad are built into the programme, and work placement opportunities are integrated throughout. Graduates of this combination are well prepared for careers in digital communications, content creation and marketing across a wide range of organisations, including the many faith communities, charities and public organisations that need to communicate effectively in digital environments. Roles in social media management, digital content strategy, communications and marketing are all accessible. The religion and theology component also prepares graduates for roles in interfaith relations, chaplaincy, community development, education and the charitable sector. Some graduates pursue postgraduate study in digital marketing, communications, theology or religious studies.
